Made from 90% wool and 10% cashmere, the Ember Cape measures 44 × 45.7 in / 112 × 116 cm when laid flat. Its open shape, soft V-neckline, and asymmetric fall make it an easy layer for an office set to someone else’s comfort, a lobby colder than the street, or an evening that turns while you are still out in it. The cashmere in the blend softens the feel where the fabric meets the neck, making it comfortable enough to leave on indoors.

90% wool, 10% cashmere.
A natural-fiber blend — wool for structure and breathable warmth, cashmere for a softer surface against the skin. Insulating, light in the hand, and made for transitional seasons.

Care: Dry clean recommended. Skip the washing machine and the tumble dryer — wool firms up and shrinks a little in a warm, moving wash, and it does not relax back. Airing between wears is most of the upkeep; blot spills rather than rubbing. Store folded or gently rolled to hold its shape. For pilling, spills, and storage, see our Care Guide.

One panel with a soft V-neckline and an open front. It sits at the shoulder and falls about 22.8 in (58 cm) front-to-back — landing at the high hip on most people — while 44 in (112 cm) across covers both shoulders and extends past the elbow. No closures, nothing to size: layer it over a sweater or a jacket, or let it hang open on its own. Made for all genders and body types.

Will the Ember Cape overwhelm a smaller frame?

Ember is the smallest of our three capes — 44 × 45.7 in / 112 × 116 cm laid flat, against 51 × 57 in for both Drift and Murmur. It sits at the shoulder with a soft V-neckline and an open front, covering both shoulders and past the elbow, and falls to about the high hip. Our model is 5 ft 7 in / 170 cm. At or below that height this is the cape to start with; the two larger ones are a lot of fabric on a smaller frame.
Can I carry a bag or type while wearing the Ember Cape?

Typing, yes — push the front panels back off your hands and they stay clear. A shoulder bag works with the strap under the cape rather than over it; over the top and the fabric bunches. Driving in it is not comfortable, but an open front comes off and goes back on in a second. This is a layer for being somewhere rather than for working with your arms raised.
Will the Ember Cape stay on when I stand up?

It has no closures, so it moves when you do. The V-neckline and the asymmetric fall help it sit rather than slide, and there is less cloth here to shift than on a full ruana. Expect to resettle it when you stand, the way you would a scarf. If you want a layer that needs no attention at all, the Drape Vest has defined shoulders and stays put.
How do I wear the Ember Cape so it looks like a garment, not a blanket?

Open, over something fitted — a shirt or a fine knit rather than a bulky sweater. Let it hang instead of wrapping it closed. One shoulder pushed back gives it an asymmetric line. What makes any open-front layer look like a throw is the volume underneath it, not the layer itself.
Will the Ember Cape be too warm indoors?

It is 90% wool and 10% cashmere, and one open panel rather than a closed garment — it warms the shoulders and chest and leaves the rest of you open. That is exactly why it works in a cold office where a jumper is too much by eleven. Wool moves moisture rather than trapping it, so it does not get clammy. It is still a wool layer, so it is not a warm-room piece.
How do I look after the Ember Cape?

Dry cleaning is recommended rather than required, and airing between wears is the normal maintenance. It is worth keeping out of the washing machine, though: wool firms up and shrinks a little in a warm, moving wash, and it does not relax back. Fold it to store; hanging pulls the shoulder line out over time. Pills form where a bag strap or a collar rubs — lift them with a comb rather than pulling. Put it away clean over the summer, since moth larvae are after the oils in worn wool more than the fibre.
What does the Ember Cape in Peat Smoke go with?
