Whisper Long Cashmere Scarf | Wheat Haze

Made from 100% cashmere with a fabric weight of 260 g/m², the Whisper Long Cashmere Scarf measures 63 × 12.6 in / 160 × 32 cm. It is deliberately light, so it remains comfortable to wear indoors. Choose it for the commute between a cold platform and a warm car, a flight where you want warmth at the neck without a blanket on your lap, or an evening that turns while you are still out in it. Finished with fringed ends, it is long enough to loop twice or let fall open.

Materials & Care

100% cashmere.
Pure cashmere, spun fine and finished with a fringed edge — exceptionally soft, naturally insulating, and light enough to wear indoors without overheating.

Care: Dry clean only. Skip the washing machine and the tumble dryer — cashmere firms up and shrinks a little in a warm, moving wash, and it does not relax back. Airing between wears is most of the upkeep; blot spills rather than rubbing. For pilling, spills, and storage, see our Care Guide.

63 × 12.6 in / 160 × 32 cm. One size, cut long enough to loop twice or hang open.

Light and narrow through the body with fringed ends — it wraps close at the neck under a coat, or drapes long over a jacket. Packs down to almost nothing. Made for all genders and body types.

Why this one

This is the only piece in the line made from 100% cashmere. At the neck, softness is the whole point — no wool in the blend, nothing to interrupt the cashmere. Where cashmere appears elsewhere in the line, it is a 10% blend that softens the hand of the wool.

Is Whisper Long really 100% cashmere, and is it worth the money?

It is 100% cashmere, with no sheep's wool in the blend. Cashmere costs what it does because the fibre is finer than wool — that is what makes it comfortable directly against the neck, where most wool is not. What it buys you is softness and lightness, not durability: cashmere is the more delicate of the two, and a wool scarf will outlast it under a rucksack. Buy this for how it feels at the neck; buy the Ember Oversized Scarf if it needs to survive a commute.
Is Whisper Long a neck scarf or a travel wrap?

A neck scarf. 63 × 12.6 in / 160 × 32 cm with fringed ends is long enough to loop twice and hang, and far too narrow to cover your shoulders on a plane. If what you want is one piece that does both, the Ember Oversized Scarf is 86.6 × 19.6 in — wide enough to open across the shoulders and still wrap at the neck when you get off.
Will the Whisper Long cashmere scarf feel comfortable at my neck?

For most people, yes, and more reliably than wool — finer fibre is the whole reason cashmere is worn against skin. We would still rather not promise it for everyone: comfort against the neck is individual, and if you already know that fine animal fibre irritates you, this will not be the exception. Worn over a collar it is a non-question.
How do I wash the Whisper Long cashmere scarf?

Dry clean. It is tempting to hand-wash cashmere and plenty of advice online says you can, but this scarf is finished to be dry cleaned and that is what we recommend. In practice you will do it rarely — air it between wears and it stays fresh for a long time.
Will the Whisper Long cashmere scarf pill under my coat collar?

Where a coat collar or a bag strap rubs against it, yes — that is where every cashmere scarf pills, whatever it cost. It is friction rather than a sign of quality. A cashmere comb lifts pills off cleanly; pulling them by hand takes good fibre with them. Rotating how you wear it helps too, so the same spot is not always the contact point.
How do I store a cashmere scarf to protect it from moths?

Moths prefer cashmere to almost anything else, and a moth hole is how most cashmere scarves actually end. Store it clean — the larvae want the oils and traces in worn cloth more than the fibre — folded somewhere that breathes, and look in on it over the summer rather than at the end of it. Seventy-two hours sealed in a freezer kills larvae and eggs in a piece you are unsure about.
What does Whisper Long in Wheat Haze go with?
